Taxi! was a BBC television comedy-drama series transmitted in 1963 and 1964. Created by Ted Willis, who had developed Dixon of Dock Green, he was well aware of taxicab drivers inclination to provide stories, and intended 12 individual plays for what became the first series. The series starred Sid James as Cab firm owner and driver Sid Stone. Similar to his role in the near contemporary film Carry On Cabby, this was more a drama with humour, Jack Rosenthal scripted a few episodes and Bill Owen appeared as the Cab firm's co-owner Fred Cudell with Ray Brooks as driver Terry Mills. The three men shared part of a converted house, with Sid Stone tending to interfere in the lives of his colleagues and his customers. James character was, according to John Fisher, "streetwise, but conscientious". While ratings for the first series were poor, it was transmitted in the summer, a second series was broadcast in 1964. Female neighbours were now introduced, and Bill Owen's character was written out. The series was produced by Michael Mills among others. Of the 26 episodes broadcast, only one is believed to still exist.

Taxi Orange was an alternative to the Big Brother reality soap, and it was quite popular in Austria. It was aired by the public television channel ORF. The idea was to lock up a group of people in a closed environment, who were allowed to leave only in an orange taxi driving passengers around, so they were still able to interact with the world outside. The habitat and the taxi interior were videotaped and used to produce a 30-minute daily summary, which was presented to the viewers. Each week, viewers elected a winner who had to decide on the exclusion of one colleague. The winner got 1 million Schilling. Two seasons were produced.

Taxi 0-22 is a popular Canadian television comedy series, which airs on TVA, a Quebec-based French language network in Canada. The series stars Patrick Huard as Montreal cab driver Rogatien Dubois Jr. II. The first season is predominantly set inside Dubois' dark blue taxi, a Ford Crown Victoria, and the comedy unfolds through his interactions – usually opinionated and deeply held – with the guest stars and other passengers who ride in his cab. Season two expanded the show's narrative to focus more on stories and characters outside of his taxi. Dubois speaks a thickly accented and rapidly delivered Quebec slang. The first season of the show commenced broadcast in February 2007, the second in January 2008, and the third season began airing in January 2009. It is broadcast at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday nights. It has been reported that more than one million viewers watch the show every week. The TVA network has ordered season four to be produced, based on the success of the series. In 2008, the series won the Olivier Award for best dramatic comedy. Actor James Gandolfini is developing a pilot for an American adaptation, which will air on HBO if it is picked up as a regular series.

Taxicab Confessions is a television series of hidden camera documentaries that have aired on HBO since January 1995. In segments taped in New York City and Las Vegas, the taxi drivers are also producers who steer both the vehicle and the conversations with passengers. When passengers enter the cab, they are recorded with several small cameras hidden in the taxi. The producer prompts passengers into discussing their past and/or present circumstances. This has led some participants to reflect on their life, recalling extreme tragedies or triumphs. Much is verbally or visually graphic, including explicit sex talk and sex acts performed in the back seat. At the end of the taxi ride, passengers are asked to sign waivers allowing the hidden camera footage to be used on the program, and footage of this revelation is sometimes seen during the closing credits. Separating the segments are short video montages showing life in the city, incorporating quick cuts of club interiors, flashing neon signage, strippers and the homeless, along with the series theme music, "Over the Rainbow" by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. The series originated in New York, moved to Las Vegas and in recent years returned to New York.
