The Lone Shark was a weekly, 30-minute public-access television cable TV program which broadcast for ten years on WFAC-TV and SoundView Community Television. Both television stations were part of Cablevision of Southern Connecticut’s cable system, which spans the southwestern coast of Connecticut from the New York State border to the middle of New Haven County. The Lone Shark was hosted by the program's creator and Executive Producer Jim Sharky and co-hosted by the program's Producer Sean Haffner. Although the program was unscripted, Sharky would usually have a list of topics that he wanted to discuss with Haffner on each episode. The Lone Shark was known for its fast pace, strong language and adult themes, often pushing the limits of what station managers believed could be allowed on television. The Lone Shark was originally recorded in-studio or on-location and edited before broadcast, but after 1993 the program was broadcast "live" without a broadcast delay, editing or censor. In August 2001 the program was permanently suspended from production by the SoundView Television station management after The Lone Shark aired three seconds of a graphic adult sex video on live television during prime time.

Return to Lonesome Dove, written by John Wilder, is a TV miniseries involving characters created in Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize-winning western novel Lonesome Dove. The story focuses on a retired Texas Ranger and his adventures driving mustangs from Texas to Montana. It is a sequel to the 1989 miniseries Lonesome Dove, but was not written by McMurtry, who instead wrote and published his own sequel novel Streets of Laredo in the same time frame. It was nominated for an Emmy Award, and followed by two TV series, Lonesome Dove: The Series and Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years. Neither series lasted long. McMurtry followed Streets of Laredo with two prequels, which with Laredo were also subsequently made into TV miniseries. Many fans of the Lonesome Dove series of novels do not consider Return to Lonesome Dove or the two derivative TV series to be canonical because of their divergence from McMurtry's storyline, and the apparent motivation of its production by the success of the original miniseries.

Globe Trekker is an adventure tourism television series produced by Pilot Productions. The British series was inspired by the Lonely Planet travelbooks and began airing in 1994. Globe Trekker is broadcast in over 40 countries across six continents. Each episode features a host, called a traveller, who travels with a camera crew to a country—often, a relatively exotic locale—and experiences the sights, sounds, and culture that the location has to offer. Special episodes feature in-depth city, beach, dive, shopping, history, festival, and food guides. The show often goes far beyond popular tourist destinations in order to give viewers a more authentic look at local culture. Presenters usually participate in different aspects of regional life, such as attending a traditional wedding or visiting a mining community. They address the viewer directly, acting as tourists-turned-tour guides, but are also filmed interacting with locals and discovering interesting locations in unrehearsed sequences. Globe Trekker also sometimes includes brief interviews with backpackers who share tips on independent travel in that particular country.
